24 Hour Emergency Plumbing Services Ensure Satisfied Customers

Most people make the mistake of assuming that they can get hold of any plumber during an emergency and attend to the leakage or other problem, which is creating the emergency. While this is in a way true, you can never be sure that the plumber you contact when confronted with such an emergency, is the best one. Does the agency have qualified plumbers? Do they have the technical competence to tackle the emergency? Are they trustworthy? Remember such emergencies quite often occur in the dead of night and you need to be sure of the people you let in at such odd hours.

How Can An Emergency Plumber Help You?

Plumber at work under a sink using a wrenchPlumbers are great people to know because at some time or another their services will be required. They can help with all sorts of problems, from blocked kitchen sinks to stoppages in sewer lines. Unfortunately often these issues such as broken water heaters do not wait around for a convenient time and pipes may burst out of normal hours and this is how an emergency plumber can become your best friend for a short while!

Plumbers are professional tradesmen who have to either get vocational training or go through an apprenticeship program, which can take up to five years where they are taught basic plumbing skills and then go on to more ‘difficult’ areas. They have to spend at least 144 hours in a classroom each year of their apprenticeship, as well as learning ‘on the job’. Then in order to get their plumbers’ license, they need to have anywhere from two to five years’ experience as a plumber and have to pass a test. Becoming a plumber means dedication and learning a very particular skill set.

When on the job a plumber must take many things into consideration before even entering your premises. He has to have the correct tools with him and also have his plumbing credentials to hand as well as some form of identification, so you know to trust him when he knocks on your door. The plumber must then listen attentively to your description of the problem and thoroughly inspect the damage and the cause of it. After he diagnoses the problem (for example a blocked drain) he has to find the right solution. This is where his training comes in. While we might think one blocked drain is the same as another, this is often not the case. He can then use his tools to successfully clear the drain and remove the matter causing the blockage. Then he will check to see if everything is running smoothly and if there are any other immediate problems being caused by it.

Afterwards he will inform you of what he has done and possibly give you advice about how to prevent such an incident happening again. He will usually write a bill on the spot, if he is working for himself and ask for payment. Otherwise, if he is working for a plumbing service, he will usually ask you to sign a form to detailing what he did and how long it took and the company will then send a bill to you.

Being a plumber can be a very satisfying job. They help people often in quite dire situations (like overflowing toilets for example). They are experts in their field and each day brings new challenges. They have to think quickly in emergency situations and they should be able to listen attentively to how you describe a problem, asking questions when necessary. They also take care that your home or business suffers the least damage possible.

Plumbers deal with all sorts of emergencies and often have to think really fast. A plumber is a professional tradesman.

One Of Many Services Provided By An Emergency Plumber

Happy Plumber Holding PlungerI have been a self-employed plumber for over 25 years and I have had many interesting experiences during that time. I get to experience the good feeling when I really help out a homeowner through a sometimes harrowing situation, and help to make everything turn out well.

I will never forget one call I made in the middle of the summer in Suffolk County, Long Island where I live and work. The call mentioned a plugged up toilet, and they were getting desperate. This sounded interesting already.

When I arrived at the home, the wife was in tears and the husband had that far away look of despair. The husband said,” follow me”. He took me to the bathroom that went with the mother in law room, and the toilet was full to the rim with feces and sewage. He said that he had tried to get it loose with the snake he had purchased at Wal-Mart, but to no avail. I said, “hmmm, let’s go up on the roof”.

I really thought that instead of attempting to go through the mess in the bathroom, I would just go on the roof with the power snake and make short work of this project. The problem was, though an hour later we still had no progress from the roof of breaking through. I asked the husband where the cleanouts were, and he didn’t know. I walked around the house, and found the only one clear at the other end of the house.

Sure it would be nice to roll back over when I get a call so I can get a little more sleep, but when they call I answer. It is the right thing to do in order to establish a great record with customers.

Do-It-Yourself Plumbing vs. Hiring A Professional Plumber

Should you hire a professional plumber or do it yourself? It might seem like professional plumbers are expensive, and this might be true depending upon the type of job that you need done. In some cases, it might be tempting to do the job yourself to try and save some money. Is it a good idea to try to do plumbing jobs yourself, or should you always call upon a professional?

It is true that you can find supplies at many local hardware stores or online plumbing supply shops. In fact, you can even find lots of online videos and articles that will outline the steps that you need to take to perform many common plumbing repair jobs. These common tasks might include replacing toilet flappers, fixing a leaky faucet, or unstopping a clogged drain.

However, you should probably still hesitate if you are not very experienced in these types of home handyman projects. The articles and videos might be good basic guides, but they rarely tell you what to do if anything goes wrong. They are usually created with a perfect situation in mind, and home owners rarely experience a perfect situation when they have plumbing problems that require urgent attention.

You might be fine if you attempt very simple tasks yourself. For example, many people can figure out how to replace shower handles or unstop a toilet drain if it is a matter of a simple clog. However, in some cases, you might do more harm than good if you try to become an amateur plumber.

4 Steps to Clearing a Clogged Toilet

In this video Ben from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing in Suffolk County Long Island explains the 4 steps to unclogging your toilet bowl.

How to Unclog Your Toilet in 4 Easy Steps

Step #1
Toilet clogs almost always occur at the top of the tight, up-curving trap that is part of the fixture. In most cases a plunger can clear the obstruction.

Step #2
If plunging does not work you will need a closet auger. Place auger into the bowl with the bent tip aiming up. Hold steady as you crank and push on the handle. make sure you’re wearing goggles and gloves.

Step #3
Continue cranking until you’ve dispensed the entire cable – about 3 feet.

Step #4
Flush the toilet to clear up the drainpipe. If it’s still a little clogged then run the auger two more times.

Those are the 4 steps to clearing a clogged toilet. If you think you can do it yourself go ahead and give it a try. However, if you need help then call a plumber in Suffolk County.

An Emergency Plumber Makes All The Difference

Woman Mopping Up Leaking Sink On Phone To PlumberIt’s great if you want to handle some plumbing issues on your own. However, many people don’t realize how complicated issues can actually be until they get started. And, even if you’re wanting to call a plumber, you’re relegated to plumbing hours right? Wrong!

Whatever issue may arise, there are emergency plumbers that can save the day and get you back up and running. And when you’re facing those tough emergencies, it really does make sense to get someone on the job that can help you.

Many times, the situation that calls for a 24 hour plumber leaves someone scrambling to find a person to fix a problem in such an emergency. However, this shouldn’t be the case.

Instead, you should have someone beforehand that you know you can call when this emergency occurs. It’s like having someone on call. Do your family and friends know someone you can go to when this happens?

Do a little research on your own to know about emergency plumbers. By visiting different websites, you can see if someone is willing to come to you at any time or if they are only open during regular business hours.

It’s one thing to have a problem with your plumbing, but it’s something completely different to have busted water pipes when it’s nighttime or on a holiday weekend.
